Michael Katsidis’ proposed rematch with Englishman Graham Earl has been scratched due to a breakdown in contract negotiations. Katsidis reportedly had a verbal agreement with Earl’s team but when it came to signing for the fight things didn’t quite work out. Tough Mexican Michael Lozada, is the new opponent for Katsidis and the fight has been pencilled in for 13th August at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.
Lozada( 30–8–1, 30 KO’s) is a dangerous puncher and has been in the ring with the likes of Paulie Malignagi and the late Edwin Valero. The Mexican will prove to be a much tougher test for Katsidis(27–4, 22 KOs) than the faded Earl. Katsidis’ team have announced that they are chasing a fight with future hall of famer and Mexican great, Erik Morales. The fight with Lozada will be Katsidis’ first at the junior welterweight limit and is obviously a move to get him ready for a possible Morales fight. The Aussie warrior will be looking to bounce back after a tough lass start loss to Mexican talisman, Juan Manuel Marquez. Katsidis has been in one tough fight after another for a while now and Lozada will prove no different. A solid win over Lozada will almost guarantee a well deserved, big money fight with Morales, possibly later this year. by Elyas Khaliqi
