The best first round a fighter could ever wish for wasn’t enough for light middleweight King Davidson to take out the OPBF title against Japan-based fighter Charlie Ota in Tokyo last week.

A day after Bolling arrived in South Africa for the fight, scheduled for this saturday, Oosthuizen was involved in a car accident that resulted in 25 stitches to his face.
Not surprisingly he pulled out.
Fortunately for Bolling, light heavyweight Isaac Chilemba, who was also due to fight on the night, agreed to come down 3kg and face Bolling in Oosthuizen’s place.

Aussie Joel prepares for combat

27265_1416345290086_1276203941_31225534_1559989_n-1Australian featherweight champion Aussie Joel Brunker likes his training tough. The tougher the better. Now one of the few professional fighters good enough to live off boxing, Joel loves the gruelling sessions his trainer puts him through at Richmond Boxing Club.
“Anything you can do to make it harder for me, the better,” he says.

As an amateur Joel had 96 wins from 121 fights and an Olympic bid at the 2004 games even before he turned 20. As a professional he is undefeated with a record of 14 (8)-0–0
Now 24 he has a carefully planned strategy for achieving a WBC youth world title – available to under 25-year olds – in September this year.
“The main thing I’ve got to do is keep winning,” he says simply.

Fight Review- Blacktown Rumble

Views: 27100ADD COMMENT 8 years ago

IMG_3099_copyA sense of mixed emotions lingered as I walked through the doors of Blacktown RSL. Blacktown – my former hometown, the place that consumed the best of my “Cosby” years. I wondered if I would run into anyone I know and sure enough I saw a few familiar faces, but now a little more timeworn since I’ve seen them last. They were here to see a young lad called Tyson, an amateur boxer with only a handful of fights under his belt. To my amazement this young lad stood over 6’ tall and had a frame of a panther. I had the privilege of watching this young boxer display his boxing skills and was entirely impressed. With the right training and guidance I think this young guy has a promising future in boxing. There were another 3 amateur fights that night, all of high standards. This was then followed by 6 pro fights, one of them vacant for the Lightweight Australian title. The opening pro fight was between Jody Gall Vs Ben Wrotniak. This was a good fight to get the punters into the mood.

Q.Most people say that daughters tend to soften the hardest of all men and make them more “responsible” so to speak. I’m sure this will apply to you somewhat but do you think this new found fatherhood will have any affect on you in the ring?

Boxing NSW issues call out for BAI members

Views: 40560ADD COMMENT 8 years ago

After being disaffiliated from Boxing Australia Incorporated in early December, former Boxing NSW judges and referees are petitioning to sign up more than 500 voting members of BAI in order to win control of the new organization (Boxing Australia (NSW)) that will control Boxing in NSW.
The disaffiliation was a result of years of infighting between Boxing NSW and the breakaway group the NSW Amateur Boxing League, which centered on complaints concerning former Boxing NSW chief administrator Arthur Tunstall.
While it is understood the ABL have received a strong indication from the BAI that they will be able to control the new committee and constitution, Boxing NSW is well on its way to gathering enough votes to present a sizable opposition to such a force.
They haves put together a board of seven members including three PCYC official holders.
“We have included a good representation from the PCYC on this proposed board and see this as a solid union in securing the future of boxing in Australia,” the petition says.
