Kali Meehan too strong for Michael Kirby.

Jamie Myers Promotions presented a knock out night last Friday at
Southport Sharks.
The main event between Kali Meehan and Michael Kirby for the WBF World
Heavyweight Title went for a disappointing one minute. The fight was
stopped by the referee when Meehan delivered some devastating punches leaving
Kirby dazed. The 41 year old Meehan dedicated the fight to his wife and
kids.
The main supporting bout between Gold Coast boy Tyrone Jones and Melbourne’s Lyndon
Echey went the full 6 rounds with some impressive fighting from both. Both
fighters delivered some strong combinations but Echey was unable to match
Jones’ energy and Jones won by unanimous decision.

Steve Hurts Kurt By TKO

Steve Moxon made his debut into Pro-boxing not too long ago and has made quite an impact. On his third fight he has knocked out former NSW middleweight title holder, Kurt Bahram in the 1st round.
Moxon, who is well known within the kickboxing circuit, was finding it hard to get matchups in his chosen discipline after defeating some of the big names kickboxing has to offer. In order to stay active he decided to try his hand at boxing and prove that kickboxers can make great boxers too.
His fight against Kurt Bahram at JNI's show on Friday 17th June, dubbed “Game On”, would surely test his hands and prove his point.

Katsidis new opponent

Michael Katsidis’ proposed rematch with Englishman Graham Earl has been scratched due to a breakdown in contract negotiations. Katsidis reportedly had a verbal agreement with Earl’s team but when it came to signing for the fight things didn’t quite work out. Tough Mexican Michael Lozada, is the new opponent for Katsidis and the fight has been pencilled in for 13th August at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.

Tongia returns for Australian Light Middleweight Title grab

Warriors at War, held at Brisbane's The Greek Club by ACE Boxing Promotions featured a main event between Tyrone Tongia and Pat Rullo for the Australian Light Middleweight Title. The fans turned out in force for the exciting match up, with not a spare seat in the house.

The night started with local boys Steve Wijangco and Kyle Teer. Coming off a run of losses, Wijangco dropped five kilos for the bout. After a slow start the pair turned up the heat in the second round when Wijangco got Teer in the corner. After getting knocked down in the third round Teer picked up his work rate in the final rounds and won by unanimous decision.

The Preacher rumbles the metro

Rumble in the Metro, held in Brisbane on June 4th by promoter Ian Bronson, showcased a mammoth thirteen kickboxing fights including two title fights. The crowds turned out in force to support the fighters and a fun time was had by all.

The night started off with a number of exciting local fights with Zack Short defeating Liam Badger in the first bout by knockout 1min 24sec into the second round. Then the self-trained Damien Scrivano put up a strong fight to last the full five rounds against Kili Pole who won by unanimous decision.

Billy Dib secures IBF world title shot

IBF #3 featherweight, Billy “the Kid” Dib (31–1, 19 KOs), will get his second shot at the featherweight title when he challenges #2 featherweight, Jorge Lacierva (39–7–6, 26 KOs), for the vacant IBF 126 pound title on July 29th at the State Sports Centre in Homebush, Sydney.

Dib lost to Steven Luevano for the WBO featherweight title in October 2008 but has since rattled off eleven consecutive victories, nine inside the distance. Dib has shown marked improvement in his overall game under the expert guidance of leading Aussie trainer Billy Hussein. Gone is the excessive showboating, replaced by good technique which has resulted in better power behind his punches.

Diverse Card at Cronulla Leauges Club

           Boxing followers were rewarded with a diverse line up at Cronulla
Leagues Club on Saturday night. The card featured one professional
fight, several experienced amateurs and the participants from Fight
Club 4.


Fight Club is one of the many white collar boxing programs that are
growing in popularity. Although not strictly open to business people,
these programs attract those who are too busy or too old for regular
boxing training. They are offered an opportunity to learn basic skills,
get fit and a night of glory in the ring.

Katsidis vs Earl rematch

The last time they fought, Englishman Graham Earl (26–4, 12 KOs) and Aussie warrior Michael Katsidis (27–4, 22 KOs) put on an unforgettable brawl that was subsequently voted the prestigious fight of the year and also included the round of the year. Katsidis “The Great” Promotions today announced that they have agreed to terms with the Earl team to stage their rematch in Australia later this year.
